Bio
Wes Walker put together one of the most decorated careers in the history of the men’s wrestling program at Missouri Valley College. Wes achieved a tremendous amount of success, and helped establish a winning culture at the heavyweight division for the Viking men’s wrestling program. Wes became a three-time All-American during his wrestling career, finishing fifth at 197 pounds in 1999 and sixth at 197 pounds in 2000. As a senior, Wes put together one of the best single-season perormances in program-history in 2001, becoming a National champion in the heavyweight division. He captured the twelfth individual National championship, and just the second National championship for a heavyweight. Wes also served as captain in both the 2000 and 2001 seasons, and led the program to National runner-up finishes both years along with a regional championship in 2000. Wes’ successes on the wrestling mat were rivaled by his achievements in the classroom at Missouri Valley. He was a two-time NAIA Academic All-American, in 2000 and 2001. In addition, he was named to the Dean’s List each semester on campus, was awarded the Charles L. Bacon Award in 2001, graduated magna cum laude with a 4.0 GPA, and was chosen as class speaker in 2001.
Since graduating from Missouri Valley, Wes has settled in the Kansas City, Mo., area, and has become a successful financial planner with a number of financial establishments, currently with Edward Jones.
His former head coach, Mike Machholz, says that Wes embodies the ideals of the Mr. Viking persona, adding that he was the consumate teammate and leader, both in competition and in the classroom. Machholz also says that Wes was a natural leader, still contiues to help is fellow teammates at Missouri Valley, and speaks fondly about the college to recruits.
