Bio
Dick graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
During his football career Dick was a four-year letterman playing end and punter for the Vikings. Dick earned Little All-American honors his senior season, First Team All-Conference honors as a junior and senior, named St. Benedict’s All-Opponent First Team as a senior, and was team captain his senior season. Dick also participated in three Bowl games for the Vikings the Cigar (1954), Mineral Water (1955), and the Tangerine (1956).
Dick earned three letters in track and field competing in the shot put, high jump, and javelin. Dick was a three time Conference Champion in the javelin.
Following graduation Dick went on to become the head football and track coach at Holden (MO) High School for three years, he was an assistant football and track coach for two years at Raytown High School (his alma mater). Dick worked for the Firestone Company for 12 years before returning to Marshall in 1972 to become the employment manager for Wilson Foods. Dick later spent 13 years working, as a sales associate for the Hains-Ellingson Real Estate Company. Dick has worked for the Marshall Public School District, and the Saline County Juvenile Detention Center. Dick was the first member and active with Butterfield Youth Services (an organization founded by his brother Tom) for 28 years. Dick is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Missouri Valley College Booster Club.
Dick and his wife Ellie have two sons Steven and Rick, and two grandchildren Rick and April.
