Rodeo Teams Continue Spring Season at Pearl River Rodeo

Poplarville, Miss.., (March 24, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams continued the spring competition season with the Pearl River (Miss.) rodeo in Poplarville, Miss., over the weekend.  The men's team placed first overall with two event winners.

 

The men's team was led in bareback riding by the top three finishers in the average.  Sophomore Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) finished first in the average with a 157.  He placed second in the first go-round with a 78 and followed with a 79 to win the second go-round.  Heimburg collected 170 points.  Placing second in the average was Senior Colt Eck (Redfield, Kan.) with a 156.  Eck won the first go-round with an 82 then placed fifth in the second go-round with a 74.  Eck earned 130 points.  Senior Ty Pope (Waverly, Kan.) was third in the average with a 153.  He was third in the first go-round with a 76 and second in the second go-round with a 77.  Pope earned 125 points.  Also, Sophomore Dawson Honeycutt (Alamosa, Colo.) was sixth in the first go-round with a 73 and earned 10 points.

 

In saddle bronc riding, Pope placed first in the average with a 147.  He won both go-rounds with scores of 73 and 74, and he earned 180 points.  Senior Tyler Freeman (Cadiz, Ky.) was second in the average with a 140.  Freeman placed second in each go-round with scores of 71 and 69, and he earned 150 points.  Also, the pair of Senior Nate Pelke (Mondovi, Wisc.) and Eck competed in team roping, and finished second in the average with a 19.0.  The pair won the second go-round with a 6.3 and earned 110 points.

 

The women's team was led by Freshman Addy Williams (Harrisburg, Ark.) who placed third in breakaway roping with a 5.6.  She placed fifth in the first go-round with a 3.0 and placed third in the second go-round with a 2.6.  She earned 80 points.  Senior Betsy Roemer (Jonesboro, Ark.) placed fourth in the goat tying average with a 16.9.  She finished second in the first go-round with a 7.4 and fifth in the second go-round with a 9.5.  Roemer earned 100 points in goat tying, and five points in breakaway roping, placing in a tie for sixth in the first go-round with a 3.0.

 

The Viking men's rodeo team placed first in the standings with a total of 875 points.  East Mississippi followed in second place with 510 points.  The women's team placed sixth overall with 105 points.  Pearl River won the rodeo with 375 points.
