Bio

Walt graduated from Missouri Valley College with academic honors in 1961, was selected Mr. Vikings, served as President of the V-Club and was elected Vice-President of the student body.  Walt was the senior-student-assistant to the Academic Dean, was named to Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities, and earned Academic All-American football honors.  Walt was named All-Conference in football, and was a national track qualifier in the long jump his junior and senior year.

After graduation Walt began his teaching and coaching career in the Lee’s Summit R-VII School District, beginning as a math teacher and football coach, and was later to become head of the math department, head football coach, athletic director, and assistant principal.  Some honors garnered during his 14 years at Lee’s Summit were four conference football championships, and begin named Kansas City Suburban Football Coach of the Year three times.

Walt left Lee’s Summit to become the head football coach and mathematics professor at Central Missouri State University.  Walt served as the head football coach for five years and head track coach for one year.  In 1981 Walt was named Assistant Vice-President for Student Affairs and has served in this capacity ever since.  Walt has been recognized for his innovative retention programs and has been involved with Missouri Boys State Program for 35 years.

Walt has been married to Lynn (Gurley) for 39 years, and has three children and four grandchildren.
