Tom graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1924 and was a three-year letterman in both football and baseball. During the 1921 football season Tom broke his left elbow in the first game of the season and played the entire year with his arm in an aluminum cast. Tom played on the first Missouri Valley College conference championship football team in 1923.
Tom had this to say, “With football I had total concentration and this has been a great help in every one of my endeavors throughout my life.”
Tom also wanted to leave this thought, “God gives us talents, but we must accept and develop this to his Glory. That is what schools like Missouri Valley College are all about.”
