Stephen Tuck found success at Missouri Valley as a member of the men's wrestling program. In the 1972-73 season, Tuck was named the program's Rookie of the Year, and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. The following season, in 1973-74, Tuck was named team captain, and qualified a second time to the NAIA National Tournament. Off the mat, Tuck was active in Student Senate, intramural sports and the Beta-Beta-Beta biological society. He graduated cum laude in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in biology, and later received his teaching certificate in 1988.
After leaving Missouri Valley, Tuck worked as a conductor for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 12 years, then became a locomotive engineer for Amtrak where he worked from 1988-2014. He held the positions of regional chairman and vice general chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainsmen Union. Tuck stayed close to his wrestling roots as well, serving as a Missouri wrestling official for 20 years, before becoming a wrestling official observer from 2001-2006. He officiated many Missouri state championship tournaments and was named the Missouri Wrestling Association Official of the Year in 1996.
Tuck has remained close to Missouri Valley since his graduation. He has served for many years on the Missouri Valley College Alumni Advisory Board and has helped establish scholarships and develop awards through his time with the board.
Tuck recognizes the influence that Reed Kepner had on him during his time at Missouri Valley. Tuck says that Kepner taught him not to accept things as they were, but to think and ask why.
