Bio

Peter B. Erndl came to Missouri Valley College in 1969. While at MVC, he was a fouryear starter and varsity letterman in football at offensive tackle and goal-line defense. He was a member of the 1970 football team that played in the Mineral Water Bowl, but was unable to play due to a knee injury sustained after the seventh game of the season. In addition to football, Peter was a two-year varsity letterman as a freshman and sophomore in indoor and outdoor track and field, as well as a member of a conference champion track and field team.

During his four years at MVC, Peter was a member of the Varsity Letterman’s Club (V-Club), and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Along with three of his football teammates, Peter became involved in the drama department and performed in the play “Lil Abner.” After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 1973, Peter joined Coach Gibler’s coaching staff as a graduate assistant for football, wrestling, and tennis.

After leaving MVC, Peter returned to his high school alma mater, Freehold Borough High School in Freehold, N.J., and taught health and physical education for 34 years. Aside from teaching, he also coached football, wrestling, and track and field. Since retiring in 2008, Peter works for Clayton Concrete, and continues his 38-year career as a volunteer firefighter. In his free time, Peter enjoys hunting with his three beagles.

In 1984, Peter started the indoor track and field program at Freehold Borough High School, where he coached many talented athletes producing 12 New Jersey state champions. As the head freshman football coach at Freehold Borough, Peter has coached five undefeated teams, and as head wrestling coach, was able to resurrect the program to respectability. In 2002, Peter was inducted into the Freehold Boro High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Peter says that Coach Gibler, Coach Redford, and Reed Kepner are the people who influenced him most during his time at MVC. “I’m indebted to Coach Gibler. He gave me the opportunity to play, taught me how to win, and how to coach. Coach Redford knew how to keep it light and showed me how to enjoy playing. Reed Kepner was my greatest influence in the classroom by getting me the help I needed to study and succeed in athletics,” Peter said.

Peter and his wife, Donna, of 36 years, reside in New Jersey with their children, Dana, Cara, Peter Jr., Teresa, and Annie.
