Mike Brinkley came to Missouri Valley College in 1981. At MVC, Mike was a four-year varsity football letterman, a two-year varsity golfer, and a four-year all-conference place kicker. In 1984, Mike received all-conference, all-district, and honorable mention all-American honors as an offensive lineman for the Viking football squad. In his senior season, he was again named to the all-conference and all-district teams as a defensive lineman, and traveled to Europe as a member of the 1985 Heart of America Conference All-Star Team to play football in France, Germany, and Switzerland. Mike served as a student-assistant coach for Coach Ken Gibler in 1985 handling all scouting duties for the Vikings.
In addition to athletics, Mike was a four-year member of the Varsity Letterman’s Club (V-Club), a four-year member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE), and was named MVC’s Mr. Viking in 1985.
Mike graduated from Missouri Valley in 1986 with a degree in agriculture-business and a Missouri coaching certificate. He is currently the owner and president of Brinkley Construction, Inc. He and his wife of 24 years, Johnna, live in Trimble, Mo. They have two children; a son, Beau who is currently a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he was a four-year starter on the Tiger football team, and a daughter, Michaela, who is a freshman at William Woods University where she plays basketball and rides for the equestrian team.
Mike says that Coach Ken Gibler is the person who influenced him the most during his time at Missouri Valley.
“Coach Gibler was a living example of a winner,” Brinkley said. “Always doing what he should be doing, when he should be doing it. Encouraging you to always do and be your best!”
