Marcus Mainz made an impact on the men’s wrestling program during his four years at Missouri Valley College. He was a member of the back-to-back National championship teams in 1996 and 1997, and was on the National runner-up team in 1998. Individually, Marcus finished fifth at the National meet in 1996 and National runner-up in 1997, both in the 158 pound weight class, and was a National Champion in the 150 pound weight class in 1998. Marcus was also a three-time academic all-American.
In addition to his wrestling career at Missouri Valley Marcus was a member of V-Club, serving as president.
Marcus graduated from Missouri Valley magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and a minor in psychology. After graduation he was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine Marcus has earned a number of honors including a Bronze Star and earned a master’s degree in operational studies. He has achieved the rank of Major in the Marine Corps, and has been deployed to Iraq.
Marcus credits a number of people for having an impact on him and being a positive influence during his time at Missouri Valley. Those include Head Men’s Wrestling Coach Mike Machholz, Janine Machholz, Sandy and Rich Machholz, and Jane Bartlett.
Marcus is married to Christina, and they currently reside in Stafford, Virginia.
