Mack attended Missouri Valley College from January 1947 to June 1949, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
Mack was very active in athletics and was a member of the Conference Championship Track and Field teams in 1947, 1948 and 1949 under Coach Volney Ashford. Mack was a consistent winner at the middle distance races, and a Conference Champion at the 440 and 880 from 1947 to 1949, a member of the Conference Champion 880 relay team in 1949, a member of the winning relay team at the Kansas University Relays, and he anchored the Conference Champion mile relay teams in 1947, 1948, and 1949.
Mack and his wife Mary Helen are the parents of two sons and a daughter: Craig (MVC 1974), Kent (MVC 1978), and Kristy Porter Charland (MVC 1979-1981).
Mack and his wife Mary reside in Kearney, Missouri.
