Kevin was a native of Wall Township, New Jersey and an outstanding football player for Missouri Valley College (1970-1974). In 1973, he was the NAIA second leading rusher, carrying the ball 233 times for 1553 yards, a 6.7 average/carry and scored 20 touchdowns. The Vikings were Conference Champs that year. During the Homecoming game Kevin was awarded the Ted Chittwood Award for an outstanding game performance. Former team member Peter Erndl had this to say about Kevin, “Kevin was the best athlete of his era. He had a heart and will to win second to none”. “The best player I ever played with and I have played with thirteen members of the Hall of Fame”, says Kenneth “House” Nienhaus. Kevin was also an active member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Gary Sowell remembers as a freshman, his first practice where he was a linebacker and Kevin was a running back. The first play Gary and Kevin hit head to head leaving Gary on his back and almost knocked out. Gary remembers thinking, “what have I got myself into”? Kevin was fast and powerful, but he was also one of the nicest guys to the incoming freshman, which was not the norm for upperclassmen. Kevin took time and was genuinely happy to talk to the newcomers. In 1975, Kevin was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Kevin was also an outstanding performer in track for the Vikings. One of the “sure” winners coached by Ken Gibler in track was the relay team consisting of Ron Wilds, Craig Porter, Steve Lucito, and Kevin Hamil.
