Jason Berkey came to Missouri Valley College in 1994. While at MVC, he was a member of the varsity basketball team, which was coached by Tom Fifer. During the 1994-95 season, Jason was a First Team All-Conference selection and nominated as a Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Week. In his junior season, Jason was again named First Team All-Conference, HAAC Player of the Week, NAIA Player of the Week, and received All-American honors as the top shooting guard for the Vikings.
Jason graduated from MVC in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He currently serves as athletic director, PE/health teacher, and men’s basketball and track and field coach at AGWSR High School in Ackley, Iowa. In 2001, Jason coached his men’s basketball team to a 2A state runner-up finish, and a third place finish in 2005. In his 13 years of coaching, his basketball teams have finished as conference champions nine times. He has produced three McDonald All-American nominees, and numerous all-conference and all-state athletes. Jason has been named Track and Field Coach of the Year three times, and has led his athletes to five track and field conference championships.
Jason says that Coach Tom Fifer is the person that influenced him most at Missouri Valley College. “He was someone that I looked up to. He was an outstanding coach and role model. He is the reason why I’m in the profession that I am,” Berkey said.
Jason resides in Ackley, Iowa with his wife, Suzie, and their children, Annie, Caitlyn, Carter, and Sam.
