Red graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1929 and lettered in four sports as a Viking; four years in track and baseball, three years in basketball and three years in football. During his football career Red earned All-Conference honors at half back three times, and captained the Viking football team in 1928.
Red retired for the Hardin (Montana) School District in June of 1972 after 42 years of service. During this time Red was a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent of the 17-H School District. Red did extensive work with the Crow Indians who lived in the area and was the first coach to allow Crow Indians to compete in athletics. Red’s All-American Indian basketball team won the State AAU Tournament in 1937.
Red had this to say about his alma mater: “Whatever success I had in the field of education I owe to the football scholarship given to me by Missouri Valley College in 1924.”
