The 1966 baseball team put together the most successful season in program-history, advancing to the NAIA World Series in St. Joseph, Mo. The team captured both the Missouri Collegiate Athletic Union championship, and won the regional championship in Storm Lake, Iowa, allowing the team to advance to the World Series. Missouri Valley finished with a 1-2 record in St. Joseph, earning a 6-5 win over New Mexico Highlands University in the team’s opening game. The Vikings then fell to Southern University, 10-3, followed by a 3-2 loss against Guilford College in an elimination game. The team was coached by Volney C. Ashford. This is the program’s only appearance at the NAIA World Series.
